FF3 released via Bittorent
« on: July 17, 2004, 08:47:04 AM »
http://forums.frugalsworld.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=71124

I use the BitTornado  (    http://bittornado.com/    )

to DL and I'm getting ave 60 kB/s, 214 meg DL

For those not familiar with BT, it is a type of P2P without all the hoopla of the napster and Knutella type P2P.

good timing on the release, as I am doing a total reinstall this weekend.

Also, rumored to be based on an updated BMS 2.0 exe, hence the release via BT and not linked to websites,

FF3 new betty sounds??
« Reply #5 on: July 19, 2004, 10:33:44 AM »
K,

Just curious if there is anyone out there in this planet that likes those updated betty sounds..  IMO those suck ass!!!

I think they sound more like something we would hear in a EF-2000 or F22 or maybe even a Block 60?  Either way, I don't think they suite the conventional F-16s we mostly love to fly.  They sound more like something in a "lost in space" type video game.

Needless to say, I put my older SP4 sounds folder back in to replace the FF3 updated sounds.  BLEH!

I'll have to agree on the sounds.  I gave them a chance but I think I'll be 'fixing' my sounds before my next flight.

Not putting you guys on the FF Team down, just my preference.

How do they compare to the real sounds (Betty)
I noticed that when in afterburner , when betty sounds, the afterburner sound quits, maybe she cant fly and chew gum at the same time :)

Only a quick Landing TE so far, but I'm quite impressed with the airbase work, (OUTSTANDING!!!) even the runway signs are finely detailed, you can even see small placards on the side of them. The runway tiles are excellent along with the strip numbers at the thresh-hold. It really add to the sense of speed when taking off.

As for the flight model of the Viper, I like the SP4 model better, it just feels better to me. I did notice in FF3, you cant overspeed much at all in the jet or you will be kissing terra firma. I dove fast (730 knots) and the leading edge of the jet buckled, a very dramatic flight for the final 2000 feet down. I do like that aspect of the model, the previouse versions were pretty forgiving on damage from overspeed. Hope to get more time in it
tonight. Also, I noticed a FR drop with FF3, maybe 10 FPS from my SP4 install. I did delete the .DLL file in the Falcon directory, maybe that will help.

Also, I notice in the outside view, my landing gear is still below the ground surface, same problem I had with SP4 and BMS, this is a fresh install on a newly formatted drive, P4, Radeon AIW 9800 (newest drivers),
3rd party Tom's hiTiles is it. Anyone have any suggestions or having the same problem?

Also, Rich, the install guide you put together for the Den is pretty good, any chance you can post it to here also,,?

One more thing, I dropped 2 CBU's on a radar site, the explosions ROCK!
not only the fireballs, but the sounds.

Also, the cannon does not sound like a chpmunk unzipping anymore, press the trigger and it sounds like serious bussiness.

 I'm very impressed with FF3.

..... out

The landing gear below ground level was caused by having "vehicle magnivication" set to 2, setting to 1 fixxed it.

So you can say, ff3 ROCK'S, most of the time. And using the right settings?

Oh please don't get me wrong!  FF3 is as great as SP4 as far as I am concerned.  Just looks a little nicer with the 3D models etc.  SP4 had nicer bases with more buildings and perimeter fences, however FF3 has the new runway and building textures.  The Fox Den was using SP4 with the FF 2.1 objects folder, so we sort of have the same thing now.  But...  It is way easier to install and keep our versions accurate.

The only thing I think most users would prefer is using either Stops or Aeyes pits, and replacing your sounds folder.  So I would recommend saving your SP4 sounds folder and cut and paste all the sounds in, thus if FF3 did add something new it will still be there.

I totally agree Jody, you can use a new "update". But keep all the things you like   I'm still personally not convinced of all the new thing's that ff3 ads. I'm keeping my SP4 + bms2.0 install.
(for now    )
