DCS - Helios and PsCockpit
« on: November 14, 2021, 04:18:57 PM »
Hi All,  last days with some help of my 31st VFS buddies (www.31st.nl) I learning to use DCS and it screen extraction and the use of Helios for the non DCS screens.  It works fine.
It’s great whit BMS.  Only the ADI is not that good looking.  :lolsign:
As you perhaps know I’m connected and one by one connecting the PsCockpit PCB boards.    In BMS everything is perfect.  All fine.

But in DCS it seems Helios and PsCockpit are using te same Export.lua.
When I don’t start Helios the PsCockpit works perfectly.   With Helios it doesn’t work.
Does anyone of you have seen this behavior before?  I understand of course that writing to the same file by two programs can give issues.

F4toDCS is also a solution but I tough i nailed it using both tools  🤔

Regards Knight

Not the most helpful response, but I have noticed this problem when using DCSBIOS and Helios at the same time. Mainly I noticed that the problem would occur when I was trying to export the same data, in my case the DED and Backup UHF freq.

It is important to note that I did not isolate the issue and just disabled Helios data export. I was also trying out a few other export.lua mods like Ikarus and had a similar issue. This could have been an isolated issue for me or a PEBCAK issue.

Hit up the DCSFlightPanels discord and see if they might be able to help. I have gotten some help with bugs I have found relatively quickly.

Hi Knight,
I also have the same problem with helios and pscockpit at DCS. Helios lua file works fine. But without helios pscockpit doesnot work at all with DCS. I copied the export and f16C lua’s to the DCS script directory but no pscockpit boards working. Do you have some tricks or tips?

Hi Tiger,
yes I have found the solution,  I will send you the desired info.
You need to move the helios part to the end of the export.lua

I have a lot of issues with PSCockpit.  Its not that stable as I though it would be.   Shepherd is a good engineer, but support is very slow.
I have managed to work with PsCockpit and Helios.  But today my pscockpit display and gauges program failed and i needed to reinstall it.
PsCockpit is not working at this moment and im almost at he moment to trow it al away.

Im sorry but its not that perfect.
When i have it working again I will inform you how to.   ok?

regards.

Hi Knight,

I am also still struggeling with PSCockpit. Just tried again but no result. I have spent quite a lot of money for the PSCockpit boards.
I saw that others have the same problems, like the recent post of Viper26.
Hope somebody can help us, as Shepherd doesnot react so fast. I guess there is a problem with the lua files but what.... I prefer DCS over BMS but it has to work well.

Ron

Hi all,

I contacted Shepherd about a possible solution which helped me a lot..
I was helped by one of the co members (Nighteyes,  Aka Tim)  from the 31st Virtual Fighter squadron,  (www.31st.nl) (in dutch)

The PsCockpit mainboard is back to Shepherd for investigation.  It does not recognise attached boards.   I don't know why, so i Send it to spain.

After the adjustments below The PsCockpit Display and Gauges board works perfectly.

**********************************************

The problem was this:

When doing single player mission and setting the skill to client:

The mission starts, but because of the client skill setting, you get a role selection screen to select wich aircraft you want to fly. At this moment, the export.lua is already being executed. Since we haven't selected a role yet, the script fails because LoGetSelfData is empty. We can then select a role, but the script has already failed and wont start again.

The solution was to hold of on executing the script until LoGetSelfData exists.

the export.lua should be changed to this:

-----------------------------------------------
function LuaExportActivityNextEvent(t)

   --General
   local tNext = t

   if LoGetSelfData() then -- do not execute untill player selects an aircraft and is in cockpit.

      local t = LoGetModelTime()

      -- Info
      local lMyInfo = LoGetSelfData()
      local name = LoGetPilotName()
      local currentAircraft = lMyInfo["Name"]

      --For debug purposes
      -- local nametype = LoGetNameByType
      -- Output_file_Debug = io.open(lfs.writedir().."/Logs/PSCockpitDebug.txt", "w+")
      -- Output_file_Debug:write(string.format("%s\r\n",name))
      -- Output_file_Debug:write(string.format("%s\r\n",currentAircraft))
      -- Output_file_Debug:close()

      --Aircraft Selection
      if currentAircraft == "A-10C"  then
         dofile(lfs.writedir().."/Scripts/ExportPSCockpit-A10C.lua")
      elseif currentAircraft == "F-16C_50" then
         dofile(lfs.writedir().."/Scripts/ExportPSCockpit-F16C-50.lua")
      end

   end
      tNext = tNext + 0.1 -- these lines should always be executed or this routine will only be called once.
      return tNext

end

--------------------------------------

With the addition of the if then statement, it now works in all cases.

Its works perfectely.  :beer:

Knight I followed on the "to do's" and can't get my PSCockpit Displays and Gauges to work with DCS.  Interested in what files you placed where.  Mine is working with BMS.
