BMS 4.37 - rotating RTT extraction
« on: November 24, 2024, 06:59:04 AM »
With building decisions made long ago I have run myself into an annoying corner when trying to move from BMS 4.34 to 4.37 regarding MFD extraction. And now I need, as so many other times, some thinking out of the box.

A decade ago, for some reason I don't remember anymore but that probably had to do with the position of the controller board, I mounted the screen for the left MFD upside down. That was not a problem because I could rotate in windows setup.

Later on, to increase the number of screens I could plug, I connected both MFDs screens to a Matrox Dual. So both screens showed as a one and was not possible to rotate them individually. Luckily the old BMS extractor gave the option to rotate the extracted instruments.

Now in the 4.37 we don't have that option with the new RTT, so I'm stuck with an upside down MFD and running out of ideas.

I need some inspiration from the bright people here:
-Would it possible to pull out the old extractor and try to use it with 4.37?
-Would be difficult for the developers to enable a rotation function controlled from a line in the RTT .TXT file?
-Another 3rd party extractor would do the job? I use the old MFDE for instruments but it does not work enymore for MFDs. YAME never was reliable enough for me thought the instruments looked a lot better

Thanks

Tulkas

Well. I think that your situation is far from ideal and solving it would be much more work but should ease your maintenance in the future
I'm in the same boat, I have to fix one of my screen which is flickering and I need to go deep into the pit and dismantle the whole front panel to replace that damn screen. It's going to take ages
But at some point, there is no way around it.
So my advice to you would be to get into yours and rotate that screen phisically rather than rely on software to do it

Can't help on a definitive answer but I know that's not the right way to do it. Because even if you succeed any future version might negate that

Only your devs can answer and as always it's a question of priority. Since you're a single user with that issue that certainly won't be a priority

Helios comes to mind. Works with BMS too - at least it did when I was using BMS. Can't vouch for it with latest release of BMS. Can't say either if you can rotate screens but I think it does

Good luck mate, but my advice is to open your pit and turn that screen 180° once and for all :)

Can´t you just turn the display in Windows itself?

The MFDs from MFDE doesn‘t work anymore with 4.37, only ADI/BADI, RWR etc.
So RTT is recommend.

As Cupra mentioned I would turn the display in the windows display-Settings.

Never used Helios, time to take a look. Thanks for the advice, Knight. I always have associated Helios with touchscreens cockpits, I guess that's why it didn't come to mind.

Well, if it works, believe me,  a MUCH better choice than ripping apart the cockpit to turn the damn screen
Always easier to fix things through software
