Hello from Denmark
« on: July 17, 2024, 03:45:02 AM »
Hello everyone,

I am a mechanical engineer from Denmark and found building a Viper pit a great excuse to learn some electrical engineering as a side hobby.

Currently, I'm still in the early phases of designing, buying tools, and thinking up ways of doing things, especially since I want the pit to work with both DCS and BMS.

My current progress is limited to software only and some hardware tests. I've written a middleware script that grabs commands from DCS BIOS from the Arduinos and forwards them to DCS or translates them into BMS keystrokes. You can follow the progress here: GitHub link

Thank you for having me on board!

Hello GomGom, and welcome!

Wow, that's exactly what I was starting to look at recently! I started to create some cards for DCS using RS485 (see image attached) and was wondering how to make them compatible with Falcon4 BMS...cause this DCS BIOS system is really easy to use and tweak and moreover, with RS485, you could connect your all cockpit with a single USB cable...

As written, I've already created some prototype cards (and tested some already with DCS, working great), so if you want we can try some of your code with them (and I can provide you some cards if you want too), what do you think?

That sounds quite interesting, at the moment the code is setup so that each module has its own com port. I don't know much about RS485 but im interested in looking at it. If it's just communicating over serial like a typical arduino is, then it should work fine. Though the code would need some restructuring to do everything over a single com port.

A very warm welcome here!

What you are describing is exactly what I have been thinking about for a while. I thought it would be a great solution but unfortunately I do not have the skills to program that myself. I had a quick look at your programming and it already looks very impressive!

It would be great if someone can design and built something like thing. And then even in de public domain. There are already too many solutions that have a "vendor lock-in" and are depending on one single person for future updates. So again, great work  :hail:

Hello! My wife and I just returned to the US from Denmark where we had a great vacation! We loved it there!

It's great to have a mechanical engineer in the hobby and your script project sounds great!
