I have had alot of interest in cockpit kits lately and I would like to get some input from you guys and gals (Do we still have any gals?).   Beer Chug

I know alot of you don't have the space for a full size cockpit, so I have made a modified version that still maintains all the inner dimensional accuracy of the full pit, but the strakes have been removed.  The modified version width is 47.5 inches  (120.65 cm).  The fullsize pit is 64 inches (162.56 cm)

Here are some screenshots:

Modified Ribs

Surface model showing what it would look like skinned

I have a few questions.  For those who are seriously interested in a cockpit kit from me:

1) Fullsize with strakes or Modified without strakes version?
2) Plywood or Aluminum?  If there is enough interest, I would consider doing an aluminum version.
3) How many are interested if the price is $600 US for the plywood version?  Aluminum will be several hundred more.

If there is enough serious interest, I will do another cockpit run.

Here are some screenshots of my fullsize cockpit made from the rev I version CNC kit.  As you can see real and replica parts will fit like a glove!  Thumbs up

Hey Killn,
I would be VERY interested in a short version. Sorry for the dumb questions, but I need some help understanding plywood to aluminum. Aluminum is like yours part of both or ALL pieces aluminum? Plywood is everything out of wood, no aluminum at all? My choice would be aluminum please.
Mike is working on my panels as we speak!

NFG,

Here is the what would be contained in the plywood kit:

The aluminum version would have all the structural pieces shown above made from aluminum.  Reference Jay's cockpit thread for pictures of the aluminum version:

Hey Jason,

I am still up for an aluminum version with strakes. Still waiting for some drawings that was requested a while back....hint, hint.. More beer !

Working in Tulsa currently at Spirit Aerosystems. Inspecting the new Gulfstream 650 wings. These things are 6 ft shy of being the same size of the 737 wing. This contract will be done the end of June. They are boxing up the first set of wings to ship to Georgia this weekend.

Looks like Hill AFB will be losing about 30 or so F-16's.

Killn,

I have invested alot already in saws and wood and your cockpit patterns since no one was making a kit available.  I have not even had time to place the stencils I bought nor make a cut in the wood yet and am now wondering if a kit wouldn't be a better option.  My woodwork is sub par to say the least.

Hi Killn,

I am interested in the plywood kit because it has all the holes pre-drilled  I'm stupid ! but before I order, can you estimate the weight so I can figure out the shipping costs to the Netherlands please.

Thank you.

Jason and I may try to CNC the console
parts and canopy rails to offer
an affordable solution. Probably in a kit
form to keep cost
down. My machine will be able to bump those
out quite easily.

I'm still trying to get some canopy sills for my cockpit kit.  It would be great to get a set of sills.

note:  they were not included with the kit I purchased, and it was at a reduced rate...so nothing is owed, just sills are needed.  So my interest in those is HIGH. Big grin

I could use the canopy sills as well. It would be great to see those produced again.

Hi Jason
I'd be interested in ply or aluminium, but being in Australia I'd have to ship it. Would there be any chance you could do a weight estimation for these please ?

thanks kindly

I would really love to have a pit in ALU. but after My GF and I have visited Kukki My GF does not aprove with me getting a PIT. The visit is why she aproved with the desktoppit.

But I could ofcause just buy the pit and then waiting to assemply it until we get the space..... hmm

How much would it cost weight and send to Denmark
