Welcome to Viperpit.org Second Edition !
After several months of preparation and investigation, we've come to the point where we can proudly present to you Viperpit.org Second Edition !
We hope that this new home for our community with all it's new features and sparkly new layout is what you might have dreamed of. It sure matches our wildest dreams !
Within the next few weeks we'll do our best to help you discover this new home on the web, including all of it's features. We'll post some tutorials and tips.
But, for now: have a look around, try everything out and then, after you're familiar with every new thing, get back to what we are all here for; your pit ! Get to work and shoot some pics !
HINT: Click on the yellow FORUM link in the menu above to visit the forums that you remember from the old site. If you need to let go of your feelings, use the Shoutbox on your right hand side ! :)
In this article I will try to shed some light on the new features of this new home - Viperpit.org Second Edition. I will turn the comments feature on - this will enable you to leave comments and suggestions regarding this article for me and other admins or moderators.
Search
Although on first sight the search feature of this forum looks less advanced then the one on Viperpit.org 1st Edition, it holds more power. There's less things to fill out or select, but the power resides in the search criteria.
Normally, I would fill out simple search terms like 'ejection seat' or 'canopy'. Searching for 'ejection seat' I also get the replies where people are asking for plans. I don't want that, I just want more information - I already have the seat basics built. The solution in my case is to search for 'ejection seat -plans', giving me all the results with 'ejection seat', but not the ones where the word 'plans' also turns up. Nice !

Bookmarks
I have a big list of pit-related bookmarks in my webbrowser. It's not getting any clearer to me which bookmarks was about what. To simplify things, within this new site you can select to bookmark any topic within your profile.
Above every opened topic (thread) there's a menu option called 'ADD BOOKMARK'. Click on it and you will be taken to your personal bookmarks page within Viperpit.org Second Edition !
You can access your bookmarks at any time by using the menu on top of each page. Click on 'MY BOOKMARKS'. Very handy !
Gallery
We've integrated a photo gallery into the Viperpit.org Second Edition site. Some of you know this gallery; it's called Coppermine Photo Gallery. With some effort we managed to fully integrate or 'bridge' Coppermine into the main site, meaning that you only have to log in to the main site to be able to use the gallery as well. In the gallery, you can upload your own photos, view those of others, rate and comment on photos, and so on.
A great new addition to our community.

Just a thought for conclusion:
As you have been able to read throughout this article, there's been a hell of a lot of changes on the Viperpit.org site. Most are really good features which will make our lives a lot easier, and some are value added to our pit quests.
Many of these cool features however come at a price; I'm thinking downloads and gallery. They cost bandwidth. A lot of bandwidth ! Bandwidth costs money. And that's Mike (Kabar03) paying the price. Every single month again !
