Title: Hello from Michigan
Post by: Historiker on December 31, 2025, 02:18:36 PM
Hello all.
I just got back into Falcon BMS as I was informed that they added VR. Way way back I had built a crude viperpit using panels and subpanels cut and engraved on my CNC router table. I flew that for a few years before I shifted to VR and then decided to move my flight simpit to share the frame for my motion (6DoF) driving pit. So the Viperpit was disassembled put in a box (panels, etc) and then lost in a move.

The other day I found 3D models for the Viperpit on Cults3D (GreenIsland) and decided to build a new Viperpit. I do plan on building this on top of my latest motion pit (also 6DoF) which has some very powerful 220v servo motors. It will take some major reconfiguration to get it to work but I am retired and have time...maybe not enough money but my wife will let me know...I can hear her scream from the mancave. :D

I have most of the front panels and frames printed, just waiting on a couple of 4:3 7" LCDs to arrive for the MFDs (TM Cougar).

Welcome (back)!

Love to see pictures of your 6DoF platform  :notes:
I built three units with a triple Sarrus mechanism, but I would have to dismantle my pit to get them installed  ::)
The nice thing about them is that they use ungee cord to set the pit "half-way", so energy is only required to drive it up or down. But is is not 6Dof, only 3DoF.

PS. last week there was a post from @Nigel with a link to 6.2" square screens ... But 7" 4:3 are fine too.

Hi Henkie,
Thank you for the welcome/rewelcome.
I did have an account all those years ago but I have since lost access to that email (tied to my old internet provider) and of course my account was probably purged due to inactivity (which makes sense).

The creator of the models that I am printing also created a mounting system for the 4:3 screens which include mounts for the stepper drivers needed for the gauges, etc. Nicely tying up the MFD section.

I think I vaguely remember your motion build, did you post it on XSimulator.net?
Mine is a DiY version of the PTActuator 6DoF and SFX150 actuators. I have built motion using cheap winch motors, large Bodine 12v motors, and everything in between. The focus of my hobby used to be building and rebuilding motion pits, but I have hit a pinnacle (for me).

Not a great picture but it is the latest

6DoF and VR together must be awesome immersion. Welcome.

Thanks @salaxi54 @Zeight

I test fit my Viper upfront (HUD, MFD panels, glare shield, etc) yesterday. I have to get...creative to get it all to fit without taking the servo wheel base off (it is an old school OSW so the servo is HUGE).
