BMS 4.35 startup issues
« on: January 02, 2021, 07:50:50 AM »
Maybe I am the only one with a problem, but just in case an other issue pops up, I created this thread.

I installed BMS 4.35, no issues, it went like a breeze. Well done developers

Now, I am a noob on running BMS, but 2021 should become the year I (at least) try to fly a few minutes
When I double-click the Falcon BMS 4.35 icon, I get the FALCON BMS menu (Launch, Configuration, etc). Then I select "Launch" (nothing done before). The FALCON BMS Billionsoft opening screen appears, and then the shown Error message box appears. When I hoover the mouse over the opening screen or the error message, the mouse pointer disappears. When I click the OK button of the error message box, all closes.
Any clues ???

BTW, nothing is connected to any USB port of the PC.

Is your GPU able to run DX10 & DX11 graphics?

if not, check this:

Very good point @Red Dog
I had not thought of that   This PC is "just a PC" with on-board graphics, nothing fancy.
Will try, and report back!

Update.
I followed the instructions in the YouTube movie (dxcpl was installed already).
I added launcher.exe to the list ... same result  :(   Will try again after rebooting my PC.

Update 2.
Nope, rebooting the PC brings no solution. Time to do some googling foo  :-\

Checking my PC using dxdiag (Start -> run -> dxdiag).
The dxdiag-output-1 screenshot shows DirectX 12, so I guess this is good ???

However, on the Input devices tab (dxdiag-output-2 screenshot) I see vJoy.
That is a remains of some experiments lomg ago. Maybe that is causing trouble?
Going to remove vJoy, and see what that brings ...

Update.
Nope, removal of vJoy (checked with dxdiag that it is gone) did not help either  :(

Any thoughts?  :reading:

Did you try to delete the "d3d11.dsp" file (user/config folder)

I don't know if that's still a valid advice (so backup first) but back before deleting the "dx9display.dsp" file forced the system to recreate one and that solved such startup issues
Maybe you can give it a shot by deleting the "d3d11.dsp" file

It's out of the blue so don't delete that file, save it someplace else just in case I'm wrong

After reading, I thought: "I do not have a previous version of BMS installed, so I do not need to save anything. If it fails, I just re-install BMS 4.35 again".
So, ready to delete the file I went to "C:\Falcon BMS 4.35\User\Config".
There are no .dsp files, so nothing to delete.

But then I saw the folder "C:\Falcon BMS 4.35\User\Logs".
In there are a few .dmp (crash dump) files, .bmp screenshots and  .txt files.
Maybe interestng that the .txt files are all virtually the same and start with the following data:

Falcon BMS.exe caused an EXCEPTION_BREAKPOINT in:
0000000093BAD759 KERNELBASE.dll, RaiseException()+105 byte(s)

@henkie
Make sure you have the latest MS Visual C++ Redistributables installed.

Here is what I have, but you probably don't need all of them.

Henk
Whats your system specs? My trusty old PC will not run anything past 4.34 anymore. In my experience, the "adapter" error is a graphics issue.

Its almost a 900 Euro card that time,  and i dont use it anymore so you can have it if you want , just pay the shipping.

Henk,
do you have unresolved device drivers?
Have a check under Computer --> Manage --> Device Manager

Guys, thanks for the support

@KK : Good point to check  In my case every component has correct drivers (as it should)

@Kukki : I really appreciate your offer, but you know me  :D  I will say "no, but thanks" (very much!)
My PC is the PC in the living room. On that PC, I do all hardware and software development. And at the moment it is the PC for my work (at home). Further, this PC is for all mail lists and fora (VP, FF, old computer stuff, amateur radio, web sites etc.). Needless to say that I run a back-up at regular intervals  :D  In my hobby room I have two PCs. One is a "mini cube" running Windows XP on a HyperThreading P4   The other PC is a more capable laptop with better specs than the PC in the living room  ;D
I plan to buy a state-of-the-art PC when my pit is ready to fly  :bounce2:

@Nigel : I think you may be right!  I vaguely remember that I had 4.34 installed and running (crappy graphics though).
My main reason to have BMS installed is _not_ to fly with it  :reading:  I need BMS to test/check my rather miserable C# code that I am writing. I need to see whether I can successfully read the shared memory and issue callbacks. Performance is not relevant, just want to prove that the software mechanisms do what I want  ;D

Could you just use the sharememory recorder? This would allow you to replay sharedmemory and not have to run BMS. You just need someone or another computer to record the sharedmemory you want ot test.

  I had not thought about that @jjbravo

But I just installed BMS 4.34 (no updates), and it runs  :cheerleader:
Video is crappy, but for now I can proceed my feeble C# attempts  :D

So, whatever it is (probably the graphics adapter), BMS 4.35 demands more up-to-date hardware.
