I have booked us at Air Combat Center on Sunday 31st at 4:30. We can meet up at 1:00 for lunch and then go to ACC for flying. OK with you guys? Anyone else wants to come let me know soon so I can book more flights.

Thanks to Nigel for putting together this little gathering. I had an excellent time, as I'm sure did Venom and String.

We got together about midday and after a bit of lunch, accompanied with a thorough investigation of the state of Viperpit community, it was off to the Air Combat Centerhttp://www.flightdeck1.com/.

After suiting up we recieved a pre-functionary brief, something like, this is the triggger for your guns, push this button to fire your missiles, push this button (cursor slave) to lock up a target anywhere infront of you.

Venom and KiwiViper

The briefing was pretty basic by any F4 drivers standard and in the heat of the battle it took some concentrated effort to readjust to a new HOTAS setup.

KiwiViper ready to kick off

Our hour of pit time started at the threshold with 5 mins of individual time. A quick T/O and a bit of handling with the voice of an instructor guiding those that needed it After a quick reset into a TE it was head to head with all seven pits in what can only be decribed as a melee. 41 kills and a bucket of sweat later, we got to fly a day, then night landing followed by a carrier trap.

In all a great bit of fun. But what made the day was meeting up with other enthusiasts.

Thanks to Dave Dan and Chris. I'm sure the  other will add a photo or two in the near future.

Cheers KiwiViper

Well guys we had a blast. The place is really nice and the staff were helpful and cool until the tower asked me if I was deliberately crashing my plane into the ground. Thanks a lot. How embarrassing.

One of the instructors. The pics are dreadful and don't give any idea how it looks inside.
When you walk into the flight room it's dark and seeing all seven planes lined up is really impressive. They are huge!
They have the air scoop and look how high off the ground you are.

I was told they only went this far because they have to keep it simple enough for the public to fly.

We were glad to have you gentlemen visit us. Please bear in mind that about 95% of our customers are total virgins and therefore the brief and just about everything else tends to be geared towards them.
We do have a couple of squadrons who come in and make the place sing!
If any of the members here decide to come in and give us a test flight, let me know and I'll do all I can to roll out the red carpet for you!

At your service,

Tom (Commanding Officer...Flightdeck Air Combat Center in Anaheim)
