Youtube Embedding broken?
« on: September 06, 2023, 12:50:31 PM »
Ok, I just tried 3 different browsers, but none is showing me the embedded Youtube vids in posts.

Does it work for others? (there should be one on the last page of my progress report)

If I use an older PC, or a no longer supported browser, the you-tube links in here do no show/open.

Hmmm... Linux Mint 20.3, Firefox 117.0, BraveBrowser Version 1.57.57, Chromium: 116.0.5845.163
All 3 Browsers up2date AFAIK - nogo on all of them.
Strange....

Edit: Safari on iPad iOS 16.5.1, same problem...

Edit2: HTML code of the page looks bad:
Code: [Select]
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pXO0qmjaMOA&rel=1&fs=1"
Looks like it's encoding the & to &

I guess I found the error - the embed uses http instead of httpS:
Code: [Select]
Blocked loading mixed active content “http://www.youtube.com/embed/pXO0qmjaMOA?rel=1&fs=1”

Is there a way to re-configure the EMBED tag for the site to https?

Edit: It's definitly the mixed active content. Temporarily enabling the feature in Firefox shows the Youtube video.
But that's a security risk and shouldn't be enabled.

If one of the admins could tell me the name of the plugin we're using here, I could do a short google-search, if it's possible to change the URL.

But since I was testing the youtube-tag with the complete url it seems, it's just old and outdated.
When I enter the whole http-Link to the video (including http://www.youtube.com?watch...) it tries to show it, but with the httpS URL I get "#Invalid YouTube Link#" at the page.

Maybe theres an URL-rewriting plugin for SMF that rewrites http://youtube urls to https?

See above...
The plugin takes the content of the [youtube]tag and converts it to a regular link.

Sadly, it automatically uses http://www.youtube.com instead of http://httpS://www.youtube.com and since viperpits.org ist httpS all new browsers prohibit displaying active content from not-secure sites.

So all Links are still there (you can even see it in the pages sourcecode), but since it's insecure the browser does not display it.

The admins would have to check, if it is possible to set the link the plugin creates, to https://www.youtube.com instead of http://www.youtube.com.

If there is no config option, it should be possible to edit the link directly in the plugin's php-code on the server.

Hi Guys,

We have all the latest forum software, but there were some "mods" (modifications) from the past (like the original YouTube Embed) that are still causing errors. These "mods" are lines of code that are inserted into our basic forum code, to enable some additional functions. Some of the older "mods" use older syntax or a command that is no longer supported by modern servers & browsers. The http:// is one example, often found in links from older forum posts (before https:// came into use).

I'm still working on a few issues since our recent re-build. Let me know of any problems as you find them.

@Sandman - did you reverse some settings or update?
It looks like the youtube embed again uses http instead of httpS...
