About time I introduce myself
« on: October 21, 2021, 01:51:50 AM »
Well gents, here's my introduction. I'm an avid DCS player and I've messed around with BMS a little(I still need to tweak somethings). I've been playing flight sims especially combat flight sims since the days of Chuck Yeager's Air Combat and Megafortress. I have always had the dream of building a pit. Fast forward almost 30 years and here I am doing it. So, in May this year I bought my first house; and while looking to pick some "furniture" up for it I stumbled upon a local Patterson fiberglass Viper shell. It needed a little TLC and a fresh coat of paint but I took care of that. I picked up "he-who-must-not-be-named"'s plans and had em cut (with the immense help of Thunder who was able to direct me to a shop to cut the plans).

With that being said here is my mission statement with my pit. As a VR simmer do I need it to look super pretty? No, but I am gonna have it super pretty anyway. The interior layout will be as that of a late model Blk 50/52 with a CPD added and a mount for a collective (I know I know) the mount will probably be a magnetic mount to the ACES II so it's not a permanent mod. At first I'll be 3D printing the panels until I can get my hands on either real ones or some acrylic. I'll have some pictures when I start the build thread later on tonight!

Welcome here and  good luck with building your pit.

Be careful, it is like a one-way street. Once you start moving in that direction, you can't get back.

Thankfully, I've committed enough money that the wife just wants it done so she can see the end result so she knows I didn't waste it. :countingmoney:  :outthewindow:

Welcome aboard! Not so sure you'll be happy with 3D-printing those panels, i fear you'll soon be looking the acrylic way. But it's all a matter of personal taste (and budget some times).
Anyway, nice to have more joining the nuthouse!

Oh the 3D panels are just a stopgap so I can wire up switches and buttons till I start getting acrylic. Gonna do a couple panels at a time when I can....that and if the wife sees the panels there she won't realize when they get swapped ;)

Sounds like a "strategic" move vs the Mrs., but you could always claim something like "look hun, i crafted this myself, no money spent!" etc. etc.

Welcome to the mad house. Let us know if you need any help.
I have some acrylic panels somewhere if you want it looking a little prettier than 3D printed. They are not real, but they should get you up and running until you can find the real ones.

Welcome in the group of self-inflicted hobbyists for life  :D

Two tips: make sure you document every wire, connection, construction, and do not document the cost ...

It's great here, I moved from the East Coast here about 7 years ago and just got my permanent place. That was the catalyst for all of this!

I was at NAS Kingsville, VT-21 for a year - for T45TS Fleet Introduction.  The  place and the people grew on me - I miss 'em!

Welcome Jaster. Don't forget there are some of us here in south Texas too.
Btw, no matter what your end results are, the wife will still think it was a waste of money. :outthewindow:
