Warbirdguy1's Simple Pit
« on: April 15, 2018, 11:31:03 AM »

The above simple pit setup I completed about two years ago.  This setup was a test bed and used the lessons learned to build a refined version.  It has long since been disassembled.

My simulator pit setup must meet these operational requirements due to my living space size restrictions.

1. Front Panel, Side Consoles, and Ejection Seat must be able to operate stand alone from one another.
2. Ejection Seat must double as a general purpose gaming chair when Side Consoles are removed.
3. Front Panel and Side Consoles must be able to stow away with relative ease after each use in a closet.

Here are the major systems and components to be used in my pit setup.

* = Still need to purchase

1. Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS
2. Thrustmaster Cougar MFD
3. Viper Gear Integrated Control Panel
4. Rudder Pedals
5. iflysims 32 Button Controller for Left Console
6. A Button/Rotary Controller for Right Console*
7. A Button Controller for MISC Panel*
8. Arduino Mega for 4D Effects on the Ejection Seat*
9. Pokeys57U for Indicator Lights on Gear, Master Caution, Ext.*

I have made some progress.

Above: Test bed chair used to function check the Ejection Handle, Ejection Arm Switch [not pictured], and the Arduino Mega for 4D rumble and light effects.

Above: I purchased the Misc Panel replica off ebay a few months back.  Some of the switches I already had from hording junk.  A few days ago I cleaned the Sun N Fun Airshow Swap Meet area out of all the switches I could find.  I added a few more two and three position switches to my inventory for dirt cheap.  In addition I found an unidentified rectangular aircraft cockpit panel for breakers.  I removed all the breakers and will use it for the left console.  Due to my armchair sized restrictions I will need to take some liberties and both consoles.

As developments come along I will be sure to post here.

Love the work.

I was going to suggest looking at Hero's desktop pit thread as he has an awesome one, but the pics are all gone.

Nothing significant but I have completed the mechanical assembly of the left console panel.  Wiring the switches into the 32 Button controller will be a bit of a time consuming task.  I may just swap out the rotaries for On Momentary - Off - On Momentary switches for volume control.

I still need the source the proper hardware for the surface side of the switches.  I only have the hex nuts..

Just get a Pokeys 57U and you can hook up those 3 pots and interface them to BMS.  A total of 7 pots can be interfaced.  Get a couple of more pots and you can control the HUD brightness and FLIR displays.

You can then integrate pretty much all the switches as digital inputs. (You have ~45 digital inputs left.)  No programming.  Just a couple of menus to configure the board to send the keystrokes you want, connect it to a USB port and you're done.  Plus it will give you some experience with the Pokeys57U.

Like this idea. Keep up the good work on a simple setup. BTW: Been to Sun-n-Fun many a times over the years, bought a lot of instruments, radio's, switches and other goodies and parts to use in simulation.
