I actually like those aviation plugs. I have a few of them in my sim. One thing is for sure. They will not come unplugged.

Thanks Henk, i'm thinking of doing a mold for this and maybe copy it in resin. If i'm in the mood that is, cause real life keeps slappin  :-\
Anyhow, here's a couple of things i got.

This is the logic level converter for the DEDuino main board:

And here's a 6-pin plug i got for the UHF panel:

I know it's not exactly the ideal plug, but at least it's 6-pin and on the ultra-cheap side of things!
Here's the links from the purchase just in case anyone cares:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1set-GX16-2-3-5-6-8Pins-Screw-Type-Electrical-Aviation-Plug-Socket-Connector-New-/181927299117?var=&hash=item2a5bb6482d:m:mO4cib1ksWVIx1SK-5Ib0jw

Does anyone happen to have a spare DEDuino mainboard (I2C version), or at least a Gerber file for the pcb so i can alternatively order a build rather cheap?
I'm willing to pay what you spent for your board of course. It's just that i'm in the low mood lately and don't feel like building a prototype myself right now..
Thanks in advance!

I can probably help you out with a main board if you need one. Take a look at the link and let me know if this will work for you.  Of course the board is not populated yet as in the picture. Just the plain PCB.

Yet another small step today.. These are plain ol' Greek matchboxes. I thought, if i stack 'em in packs of 8:

and then do that 4 times:

Here's the assembly with a coat of matte black:

Looks familiar? I sure hope so. Y'all should if gotten used by now to my cheap solutions, this is no exception. It needs plenty of work to be done, but sooner or later i'll finish it. Stay tuned!  :-)

@Boomer : LOL, no thanks, my callsign is just fine  ;)
Thank you all for your encouraging comments! Here's a rough idea of the frame surrounding the assembly:
