Hi there! I've been quiet for a while. Many things going on, first the summer holidays with a lot of real flying

Tulkas' simulator - progress

Back to Norway I have been preparing for my PPL-A theory exam now in October. The theory is in norwegian and I am spanish so it is an extra challenge for me but I think I can do ok.

Nice Tulkas, What kind of aircraft is that?
I am currently Learning to fly  a DA-20. Low wing, hi tail stick aircraft and I love it.
PPLA theory is around the corner as well.
looks like we're doing the same stuff :)

But not all work have been stop on the pit. To be honest, the little time I have had for the pit I have preferred tos pend flying it rather than building. I have had some great sunday night missions with my squad enjoying my half pit:

I can understand that very much, well done. It's a great motivation as well.
Nice checklists btw :) :)

Have a bandit day

Hi RD. It´s a Tecnam P96 Golf. Lovely low wing plane with stick, it can be used both for general aviation or ultralight. A real joy to fly. I have been flying it every time I visit Spain in the summer so I have around 100h on it, now finally I felt my work/family situation was better to study for the flying license so there I am. Norwegian theory is being real hard for me though.

I´m happy you are doing the same, simulated flying is great, but nothing beats real flying, right? ;)

Nice checklists indeed  ;D You have made and keep making a great job for the community. For me half of the fun of a mission is to prepare and organize all the papers for the flight in y kneeboards. Very important work now that I don´t have anymore the luxury of a desk in front of me!

Cheers

Story of a real F16 pilot :  Flying other planes you have to correct after a movement short to to the right with a short correction to the Left.  When you do that with a F16 you are upside down  :harhar:  ( I love the stories of the real F16 pilots)

About time for an update. I had some days off in Christmas and used some time for pit building making good progress not only on visible stuff but also in planning and decision making. I have made out my mind for the electronics: Xkeys and BU0836X for inputs and AIC for outputs.

Finally I added a car seatbelt tensor to the ACESII, I removed the ball mechanism that blocks the thing if it is not perfectly vertical. It was a pain in the ass. I would say my seat is now finish:

I have modified some Aerospace light switches with Mike's lenses. They look great. I have changed them from latching to non-latching by dremeling away the little tip on the mast. I just noticed they have actually no pushing button function so I thought maybe to put a tactile button inside would do the trick:

The main job these days has been finishing the CP which has been waiting half done for almos two years.:

The front face is metal with the instruments bezels made in three parts. The first part is glued to the front face and I have insert M3 nuts on the corners. The other two part of the bezel are screwed to the first one so I can remove them if I need to change or fix the encoder.

I have peinted the fix parts of th AOA, VVI, HSI and ADI instruments and paste them on top of the screen, this is just a test with normal paper. I think it adds some "physic" appearance. And looks cooler when the screens are off. I liked it so I will print the definitive in photo paper.

I have started to make my glareshields with alu. I use advanced machinery for the bendings:

Tulkas,

where did you get those tiny encoders for the HSI?
I need a flat encoder since I have a screen under the bezel

Thanks,

Well, thanks -again- for your kind words for something I did 4 years ago

The encoder number is:

ALPS EC11B15202AA

I don't remember where I bought it since it was such a long time ago but most likely was Mouser Electr. or RS-Online

Hope it helps

Cheers

I have been a bit lazy working on the pit lately -I'd rather fly it!- but I decided it was enough and it was about time to give that left side a push and finish it. So here we go again.

Completed the "DZUS" rails for the back portion of the left console:

Very clean made "DZUS" rails Tulkas  --  and great looking pit so far
Mine are horrible to look at, but I have Martin's frame and mount the L-shape aluminium profile onto the frame parts. The extra thickness that adds and the M6 screws make it a very tight fit.
So, I could not cut a thread in the "DZUS" like you did. As a result I have to resort to some strong language when I get the nuts on the screws (and the nuts are filed at one side to give more space)   :harhar: :(

:notes:  Use M5 instead of M6 screws if you implement "poor man's DZUS" (too late for me  )

Thanks Henkie.

Well, too late for me too, I have already use the M6 all over the pit. But I am no enountering the problems you mention. In fact the M6 head size it's almost the same to that of the DZUS...
