I am getting there guys! This is almost done!

Manual chute handle. I have been thinking how to do this for a while. While it was easy for me to make in wood I wanted a better real feeling so I decide to place a metal bar inside. The bar comes from a bike "leg" (the one for it to stand) that I have saw.

Then I thought why not to put to good use my recently acquired metal handling superpowers?  :-P I thought it would be nice to have a metal outside layer

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w90/Tulkas_5Js/Cockpit/IMG_1870.jpg

Made the cut outs with the Dremel and fill it with tons of metal mastic

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w90/Tulkas_5Js/Cockpit/IMG_2208.jpg

Some patient and tedious sanding and starts to look good:

Now a small tutorial about how I make my metal parts with a few very normal tools:

First from paper stencils (no real dimensions here at all guys, made them up from pictures) I cut the metal, some parts with those metal "scissors", some parts with the dremel and some parts with a manual coping saw:

With the Dremel I carefully make a groove on the bending lines

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w90/Tulkas_5Js/Cockpit/IMG_2213.jpg

Then it is quite easy to make the bendings just by hand:

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w90/Tulkas_5Js/Cockpit/IMG_2215.jpg

After that is just matter of careful use of metal files to make nice edges and shape them:

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w90/Tulkas_5Js/Cockpit/IMG_2217.jpg

As you can see the handle is gold painted but it was too pretty for me and I weathered it to show some of the metal and kill a bit the goldish shine. Doesn't show that well on the pictures but I got very happy with the look. The touch feeling is great thanks to the metal, very solid and cold   feels like something real. I just think the sticker is too new and bright in comparision with the old used look I gave to the handle. I may do something about that in the future...

Small update,

I got some really nice gifts from a friend: a pilot harness and a set of unused UWARS shoulder straps

I preinstalled them on the seat and really boost its look:

I don't have real inertial reel strips so I temporary use strips to attach stuff to the car, they look ok but they are a bit too wide so they don't run through the small pulleys on the shoulder straps.

So guys, if anyone has an avialable set of inertial reel strips and wants to sell...

Un saludo

Dude, I fell out of my chair laughing at this! BUT your pit and craftsmanship is unbelievable. My hat is off to you, mate! I have a brand new inertia reel from an unknown seat, it is exactly the same as the ACES II but it has a different mounting angle. But with your recently acquired metal handling superpowers, you shall have no problem installing it.

Hi guys.

I am having a hard time trying to find some straps to use under the bottom cushion in the ACESII.

I don?t look for the real ones, I have the real push-dot button to rivet in whatever strap so I just look for nylon straps, 1 3/4" (4-4.5 cm) wide in olive drabb even kakki or gray will be ok. I found a ton i ebay but they are alwas to narrow, most of them 1".

I will be grateful if anyone can give me a hint where to find.

Thank you very much!
