YetY´s pit
« on: April 13, 2017, 03:56:16 PM »
Hello!
I think it´s time to introduce myself and my pit.(thank you moon for getting my butt out the wagon) :-[
My name is Peter, Iam 42 years old and live in a town called Stenungsund located in the westcoast of Sweden.

In 2003 I lived in an apartment with just a living room and a small kitchen so I built a deskpit variant

In 2015 Imoved to a bigger appartmentand and started to fly  Falcon BMS.
I was thinking with a bigger place I would build a moore realistic pit.
In my search or info and plans I found this site and joined.
I got Pegasus plans and started mypitbuilding project.

I had a pair of frontseats from my car, so I used one for my cockpit.
I bought two 8inch screens for the MFD´s. I have upgraded my hotas from Saitek X-52 to a Thrustmaster hotas warthog and
Saitek Pro flight combat rudder pedals. (foto 2-6)

The current status of my pit is that I have working MFD´s with displays. (foto7)
The screens are connected through vga to USB adaptors.
I use Yame to show the MFD´s displays from BMS.
For the ICP I use an 7inch tablet.
An 10.6 inch tablet is used for the center pedistal gauges and I use PSUdp+PSgauges to get them to work with BMS.

My latest addition to my pit is DEDunio FFI, it needs a bezel/faceplate to be complete.

The feeling you get when you start thing up for a flight and get in the pit and the gauges,
displays and indicators shows in the pit as in the sim is awe some.

Nice progress.
I can already tell you the next version of YAME will have clickable ICP and also other clickable items you will be able to use (e.g. machmeter index, altimeter pressure, ADI horizon, (E)HSI (M)/CRS/HDG). ;)

Welcome to the forum Peter!

Nice to have a little more room to expand, isn't it?

... Having working MFDs, "glass" gauges that move, and an ICP along with the seat and mockup of the consoles add a new layer of realism to your flying experience.  Great improvement over your desktop set!

Thank you all for the warm welcome and positive comments on my pit.

@ focal, I use Yame for the mfd displays and for starting TIR etc, for now and really looking forward the update of Yame but  don´t rush it, make it as good as you and roccio want it to be.(after all I have an alternative solution)

I have made an small update to the pit, a bezel for the FFI (might improve that though, but for now it will do)
I made it with hand held tools in my kitchen...
Here are some pics of the work and last pic is the working result.

cheers

My next project for my pit has started..the tricky part is to make the pit and the sim (BMS 4.33u3) to "talk" to each other.
Any tips/help to decide on how to interface the sim is greatly appriciated.
I am thinking of PS Cockpit PCB System due to the modular concept and I really like the FUEL QTY indicator or shold I go for POKEYS..is there other alternatives, can arduino work?
How about software?

My plan of my build is to make Left Aux, Right Aux and center console populated and working.
I am on the list for redneck´s ICP, so I don´t have to interface those I/O´s..

Cheers

Hey, If you allow me to give you a piece of advice after some years building not to make the same mistakes I did... If you are in for a full pit, you should read this. If not, skip it.

I started like you, making my own panels. Then I passed to commercial but cheap faceplates. Later to better ones but more expensive. Now I search for real plates. If I had started with good replicas or real plates from the beginning I would have saved a lot of money and time.
Now I have 1/3 of the panels real or good replica, 1/3 aceptable replica, but I have to replace, and 1/3 homemade I have to replace for sure.
That's is aplicable to other parts of the pit.
You will realized as long as you read and go into this hobby that perfectionism is addictive. What now makes you happy it won't do it after some time.
Cheers,
Jorge
