mcfrag0815's Hybrid Pit
« on: December 11, 2016, 03:24:31 PM »
Time to start the planning of my own pit. I always liked the idea of the Akers-Barnes-Cockpit: not too big, easy build and cheap to realize.
On the other hand I love the F-16 and so the idea was born to combine these two things. After a lot of thinking and looking for some A-B-pits and their variants I felt it was time to begin.

As I'm not familiar to CAD but building plastic model kits the first phase of my build will be a 1/6 scale mockup of the future pit.
So I grabbed some Foamboard and PS-plating and I ended up with this puzzle:

And hopefully someday I will end here (in 1/1 scale of course )

The whole construction will be made of 19mm and 12mm MDF, the ACES II is from SpeedOne's plans and the center pedestal by Symulate. 2 Thrustmaster Cougar MFD's will be also installed, the HOTAS is a Thrustmaster Warthog plus Slaw RX Viper Rudders. Another variation besides the not 100% to original measures and angles of the F-16 will be the 15" Touchscreen in front (as my onboard-entertainment-system ) and the main monitor is a 40" Philips BDM4065UC.

Up to this point it was a lot of fun - hopefully I will be able to build it also in 1/1  :yihaw:

Really nice job
This is a darn fine approach to visualize your dream - and keeping it alive  ;D

Did you find "issues" in the mock-up that will now be avoided when realizing the full scale "thing" ???
Even if you only found one issue, it paid off to start with the mock-up  :bounce2:

No major issues yet - but it helped a lot to minimize the material usage and calculating the needed material :countingmoney:
So I think it was already worth it - and besides that its a lot of fun to build a miniature pit.

Not really an update on my A/B-Viper-Hybrid-Pit, but I wanted to share this with you.

In preparation of the upcoming Cockpit and AcesII build it was necessary to change my working space because we're living in a flat and I don't have a whole room as a workshop and space is very limited. So a lot of new furnitures were ordered and the old inventory had to be removed.
And then I had this moment while disassembling my IKEA of Sweden IVAR-shelf and I hold this side panel in my hands and I begun to think... and I made a quick plan.

3 hours later it looked like this, only using the materials from my old workspace

So what I've learned is that sometimes a good Idea will lead to a goal but what's much more important:

IKEA of Sweden isn't selling only furnitures and screws and their famous Allen wrenches... NO THEY'RE PRODUCING AND SELLING COCKPIT-PARTS AND DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT    :woo:

Before that I was a Fan of IKEA - but now I'm loving them

EDIT: The fairy of orthography had to look over my recent post
